Program Introduction

This syllabus introduces into the standard course outline for Advanced Public Financial Management (APFM), a program to support participants’ objectives & introduces them to more sophisticated aspects that are valuable in increasing the transparency in finances in decision making. APFM courses traditionally focus on financial planning and accounting for public and nonprofit organizations. This program, a nonprofit organization, government organization, provides participants structured and fully functioning context for their career objectives.

The countries improve public financial management and advance thought leadership on approaches to overcoming policy and institutional constraints to economic competitiveness, socioeconomic development, and poverty reduction. This program has a wide range of transformational environments provides the necessary context to foster efficient and effective tax systems, results-driven budgeting, transparent and accountable public expenditure management, and robust macro-fiscal planning, optimizing public sector performance and contributing to broad-based, sustainable economic growth.

The program also includes approaches to examining and analyzing finances from a range of different perspectives to ensure evidence is thorough and well rounded. Participants will be introduced to methods of financial evaluation that are required by Treasury and Finance in the evaluation of public sector initiatives.

  • Recommend which type of financial report to use for different circumstances
  • Interpret and analyze the different sections of financial reports
  • Develop any additional funds necessary to provide improved accounting
  • Describe how government is different from other public organizations, financially
  • Create a financial analysis based on the balance sheet, income, and other financial statements
  • Create a long-term funding plan for the organization
